Cheap Acer Aspire Timeline AS5810TZ-4274 15.6-Inch Laptop

8+ Hours Battery LifeThis is an excellent laptop. It has plenty of ram, large enough screen, and more then enough hard drive space. The horsepower is there. The battery life is good, but I have yet to get 8hours out of it. I suspect that's mostly do to my power settings and that I did not charge it up when I first got it. The touch pad on this laptop is offset to the left of center, which is a bit strange and annoying. You will get used to it, but I would suggest you use a laptop mouse. The keyboard has an unneeded num keypad, but many people seem to like it. If that really bothers you to much though then get the 14". I personally think its annoying as it does not make all the keys on the keyboard where they should be. The enter key, for example, should be the last key on the right.Windows vista is a little sluggish on this laptop, but that's not the laptop as it has plenty of ram and a pretty fast hard drive. I suspect windows 7 will be much faster. The 3 gigs installed is plenty, but why acer did not just install two 2 gig models and bump it up to a full 4 gigs beats me.Another problem with vista is acer only installed the 32bit version not the 64bit. The 64bit version would of been much better. The cpu on this laptop is only solo core, but it does have 64bit instructions.I do notice that this laptop gets dirty easy. I have seen finger prints on the keyboard and some gummy dirty stuff the back of the lcd. I suspect the stuff on the back of the lcd is because its metal not plastic. It could be residual dirt left over from packaging, shipping, etc. Nonetheless, it does get dirty easy. The keyboard gets dirty the most easy of all. Just simple typing, even if your hands are clean, will leave finger prints and marks. Therefore, I would keep a microfiber dust cloth handy for cleaning. Please do remember people, that this is not the best laptop for gaming. If you want a gaming laptop get an alienware laptop or one of the higher end dells. This laptop is for business use or school use and it performs extremely well in that category.As for Amazon now, I am really, really mad at amazon!!!!!!!!!! I am just 45 miles from amazon in Seattle and they are taking 13-20 days to ship. That just makes no sense. What did I pay shipping for? Really!! So, in other words, if you do decide to buy this laptop do not buy it from Amazon. Do a search on google products because you'll find a more places then just amazon that have this laptop for the same price.

8+ Hours Battery LifeI read some reviews of people who where disappointed in the performance of this laptop. I have had mine for two weeks now and I think it is spectacular. The screen is beautiful and bright. Battery life is not 8+ hrs but is still amazing compared to any other laptop I have owned. The performance is very respectable for the price. Plenty of RAM and a big hard drive. The built in DVD-RW is great as well in a laptop this thin. The processor could be faster but for $525 it is everything I expected. This is a great looking laptop and the number pad on the 15.6 version is wonderful for us business people. My roomate has a 15" macbook pro and even he thinks the timeline is a very good looking machine. I expect it will preform even better when I install the free windows 7 upgrade that is included. I wanted something for my everyday computer tasks; email, photo downloading from my camera, internet browsing, itunes and media downloading/watching. It has done all of these amazingly well. I also have a monster desktop cpu with a quad-core processor, 1gb video card, 8gb of ram, 120 gb 10,000rpm raptor and a 1 tb WD black sata hard drive, so I also know what fast computing is all about. I did not buy a $525 laptop to compete with my desktop. I bought it for portability and form and battery life. It has met every expectation this user has.

Acer Aspire Timeline AS5810TZ-4274 15.6-Inch Laptop

8+ Hours Battery LifeAmazon provided this computer in their usual quick fashion. It has some excellent features and some slightly irritating ones. I have been using it about a month now on a daily basis.First, the good news. It does have excellent battery life. With the wireless on and letting its very good power management profile do its thing, it will last about 3.5 hours. Next, it has a full numeric keypad in addition to the normal keyboard--very nice. Next, nice bright screen and good sized keys. I also like the front light that is orange while on AC and charging and blue when fully charged. The lit power button is also nice. Another nice feature is a top mount DVD eject button. The unit is very light and thin. Also, it does run nice and cool and the fan is very quiet. I haven't tried the built-in webcam and microphone, so I can't comment on the quality.Now, the somewhat bad new. No spacer betwen the keyboard and numeric keypad, which results in some accidental wrong keystrokes. Also, the keys have a very sloppy feel to them. Other quirks are: no caps lock indicator or num lock indicator that I have been able to find. Also, the WLAN off/on switch is the indicator, which is very unintuitive. The touchpad is centered on the keyboard, making it about 3 in left of center on the computer due to the numeric keypad--sort of strange. But there is a touchpad deactivation switch which can be handy at times. The headphone jack is in a good location, but is black, which makes it a search. The card slot is also in a strange location at the very center up front below the charge light.Overall, a good computer and a good deal at Amazon's price.

Sony VAIO VGN-SR410J/B 13.3-Inch Laptop

Sony VAIO VGN-SR410J/B 13.3-Inch Laptop - BlackThis is my second laptop, upgrading from a Toshiba Satellite. Sony has done a lot of good and bad things with this one. It is meant both for home and office. A powerful performer with a small size. As with other Sony products, it is a beauty. PROS: 1. Speed - The laptop I got has an Intel Core2Duo P8600 which is blazing fast and coupled with ATI graphics (128mb graphics card in my laptop) it works perfectly fine. The RAM in this can be upgraded to a DDR3 (it comes with DDR2-800 standard). 2. Screen - LED backlit LCD 1280x800. The screen is awesome and vibrant, excellent colors and extremely bright (I keep the brightness to 4 out of 6 levels normally) and it very good for watching movies. 3. Keyboard - The full-size VAIO-style (or Macbook-style) chiclet keyboard is great to type on. Well-spaced keys with low errors while typing. You know this when you start using it. 4. Touchpad - Ok. This is no Macbook with multi-touch but it has a nice matte textured, large touchpad. It is very responsive and convenient. 5. Switch-Mode - This is a new feature Sony has brought up. It allows up to 3 custom settings for 5 buttons. For instance, you can have a setting for home use and specify 5 applications which can be easily accessed by 5 buttons located just above the keyboard. You can also set different wallpapers for each setting. Quite a handy feature. 6. Integrated webcam and microphone - These are pretty standard on laptops these days but the picture quality and sound quality from microphone is good. 7. Styling - The new Vaio design (tube-styling or whatever they call it) is amazing and it looks pretty good. Overall the laptop looks sexy. 8. Construction - The laptop is quite sturdy and has a solid feel to it. 9. Cooling - This machine has ample cooling vents and at the right places. I can hardly hear the fan even when I am playing games on this (yes, I do play games and they run smoothly). The bottom hardly heats up and you can keep working with this on your lap for prolonged hours. 10. Wifi and bluetooth - Well, these come standard with wifi-n and bluetooth. I find Sony's SmartWi application quite handy (don't know why people complain about this). I can turn on/off bluetooth right from window's sidebar easily and its easy to setup. 11. Battery Life - Well, don't know if its really high but it gives about 3-3.5 hours battery life with normal use, wifi on, bluetooth off and LCD brightness at 3. CONS: 1. Sony bloatware - Well, a common problem with all the Vaio laptops/desktops - Sony's pre-loaded softwares. I find some of them handy while some of them are junk and are just taking up space. 2. Speakers - The sound from the speakers is acceptable but not loud. Come on, this is just a 13" laptop...you're not going to make it into a boombox. 3. USB ports - It has just 2 USB ports, could have had at least 3. 4. No HDMI out - Well, I think the new systems have a better graphics card and HDMI out. My machine is a SR190 model and one of the earliest. The subsequent SR290 and SR390 (and similar numbered models) have better graphics and HDMI out, but 2 USB ports still. 5. LAN port and modem-port cover - I don't know what Sony was thinking when they came out with this cheap idea of putting a flimsy, plastic cover on these ports. It would have been better if they were open. The plastic cover hangs out once in a while with the slightest of touch. Quite annoying. P.S.: I am running Windows 7 RC dual-booted with Vista on this laptop and it works absolutely fine. The 'Switch Mode' buttons do not work as Sony has not yet made a driver for Win7. Believe me, Vista runs fine on this.

Excelente producto, es perfecta para mÃ, es suficientemente grande como para que las cosas se vean bien en la pantalla sin llegar a ser tan grande que sea una molestia cargarla por ahÃ. Tiene un muy buen rendimiento en lo que a velocidad de procesamiento se refiere, conectores de alta definiciÃ³n para enviar la imagen a un televisor. Lo Ãºnico malo que le encuentro es que solo tiene dos puerto USB, quizÃ¡ pudieron sacrificar alguno de los mil conectores que tiene del lado derecho, para colocar un par de USB adicionales. Buying HP Pavilion DV4-1433US 14.1-Inch Laptop

First of all i would like to let every one know that i have absolutely loved this laptop. I own this laptop for a week and i have used most of its features. I have researched on the best price and reviews on this laptop for about couple of months. After that i have decided to buy this on Amazon. Obviously i have got some good deal on this laptop. I also did a research on similar screen size laptops on Toshiba, Lenova. But HP seemed to have got better deals and configuration. Without further delay i wanted to quickly list our the Pros and Cons on this laptop

Pros: Nice bright screen, aptly placed controls, Screen size, Sound quality (great), Nice battery life
Cons: Touch pad (it needs to be tapped little harder), Missing S-Video port

I was able to get this up and running in about 15 minutes (including configuring Vista etc.,). I have absolutely loved the sound, brightness. I did use the DVD driver, HDMI, USB and all works as expected. The speed while booting and shutdown is decent. Since i was using XP before it took couple of days for me to get used to Vista wavelength of settings. But its all good now. Keyboard is perfect and cant ask for more convenience. We absolutely love this laptop and it is wayyyyyyyyyy better than my previous Sony VAIO laptop. Finally i don't say the batter is so great but it is pretty good. I'm getting a battery life of 3 hours as of today (my Sony VAIO lasted for a mere 20 minutes after 1 year of usage). One tip is to leave the Power saving settings done by HP already, unless you really want to change.

The two negatives for this laptop are, touch pad and missing S-Video port. The touch pad is really sensitive (like many other reviewers specified here). I was very careful in testing that sensitivity as soon as i received this laptop. I have observed that if you are typing very close to the touch pad, it senses the movement and the mouse suddenly displaced from the current position. Once i recognized that, this problem is resolved. The real negatvie (or problem) i see with touch pad is, you need to tap little harder when you do a double click. It is not so sensitive for the taps. I'm not sure if this gets worse with more usage. The other negative point is the missing S-Video port. Since we have the HDMI port, this doesn't really matter. I've just listed here so other readers will know.

HP Pavilion DV4-1433US 14.1-Inch Laptop

In preparation for going off to college, and because I'd been wanting a laptop for a long time, I devoted a lot of time to researching so I wasn't wasting my money on a poor machine. I went to various company websites, talked to different representatives and multitudes of people familiar with the field of computer technology, and I learned about the components that make a laptop a good or not so good machine. Here's the summed up version about my experience:

Things I wanted:
1. Computer that had power: could do basic functions plus run games and videos extensively if I wanted to, and some other programs (animation and music composition).
2. Computer that was portable: I really liked the 14 inch size.
3. Computer that had good battery power: long lasting and durable.

This Computer:
1. Computer has power: I run this thing a lot, many hours a day. And the only time it did anything out of the ordinary, the problem ended up being with a Windows update, which is completely unconnected to the computer's performance itself. I was easily able to correct the issue, and I have had no problems since.

2. Computer is portable.

3. Battery life: I must agree with one of the previous reviewers that the battery performance is not desirable. You can change your power options so your computer uses less energy when not plugged in and try to use less power-intensive programs, but in the end you'll still have relatively low battery life. Calibrating it regularly will help to maintain the life you do have. (Mine is still about 2.5 hours.)

What you need to realize about this laptop is you're paying for an entertainment PC, and it's going to use a lot of battery power. It's your call what's more important to you, but this particular computer will probably not get more than 3 hours of battery life.

Final Comments:
One of the previous reviewers had complaints about the touch pad. I haven't experienced any difficulties with mine, but I don't type with my hands resting on the computer, so maybe that's the difference. I also turn off the touchpad click feature and just use the buttons, so I don't experience issues with unwanted or frustrating clicking. It all depends on how you use the machine.

Another point to note about this laptop is that the webcam is a little grainy. Something to consider if this feature is important to you, which is wasn't for me.
